Hi all! I recently had the thought that it might be fun to have monthly wrap-ups where I can give reading and life updates. So, even though it is the middle of the year there’s no harm in starting now! That way I can be kept accountable in my reading and continue participating in the bookish community. This has been a hectic month for me and my family. Still, I am doing my best to stay dedicated to reading, writing, and runn
ng this blog and the supporting Instagram account. A few things will categorize this post. Books I’ve finished, books I'm currently reading, writing updates, and blog/Instagram updates. After reading, please share what you've finished/are reading this month and anything else about your month. I'd love to know!
Books I Finished This Month
Sinister Spring by Agatha Christie Because "Sinister Spring" was the book I reviewed this month I will keep this brief. In short, it didn't hold my interest as other books have simply because I wanted more of an entire story rather than many little ones. To see my full book review, click here.
"The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" by Suzanne Collins This book is one that I was highly anticipating. While it came out in 2020, which is when I intended to read it, the year as we all know turned out to be crazy and, needless to say, my biggest concern then was not reading. So now that a movie adaptation is being released this Fall, I knew I had to read the book to review it and the movie. In terms of what I thought, I enjoyed it a lot. It was different from the Hunger Games trilogy, but that was the point.
Currently Reading
"Stone Maidens" by Lloyd Devereux Richards This book was recommended to me by my Instagram “for your page”, funnily enough. I try to support newer, self-published authors, etc. so, I was excited to find this book. Without giving too much away, as I will be sharing a book review on it in a couple of weeks, I will just say that it is gripping. It feels like the perfect thing to read in the summer, and those who have read it or will read it will most likely agree with me. I am behind in my reading (not quite to the middle of the book), but I'm going to do my best to finish it in time to write the book review/
"Anne of Windy Poplars" by L.M. Montgomery
This is just such a sweet series. I'm glad to have finally begun reading these, as it's been a wonderful experience. I am now on the fourth one, which I started closer to the end of June, so I am not very far into it. I've enjoyed it so far, though.
"Nortons Anthology of American Literature. Beginnings to 1820." Since completing school I've found that I miss many aspects of it. I had one main goal, to graduate, and many little goals that went along with it. I had to devote time to learning and studying, and I honestly miss that. I've realized that even though I'm done with school for now, that doesn't mean I can't continue learning and setting academic goals for myself. So, I've been studying a Norton Anthology book, and that's been quite nice.
Writing Updates
My writing often gets put on the back burner many times in my busy life. I truly admire those that have such a dedication to their craft. I'm trying to work that out now, but it's been a struggle. My goal is to finish my productivity guide's first draft by the end of August, complete a short story by September, and continue researching and outlining for my novel. On top of that, I'm also working on creating engaging content and exciting blogs.
