Find the Truth, or Die Trying!

Updated: Mar 21, 2023

“Every Good Gift” by Urcelia Teixeira is a fictional Christian suspense book that is part of a series of three. It follows a man named Adam Cross and his life in a small town on the East Coast. As a child, he suffered from a tragedy but rebuilt his life in Turtle Cove, pastoring its residents. In the beginning, life seems perfect for him, his wife and daughter, and all the residents of Turtle Cove until another tragedy happens. However, this time there are many questions as to whether or not this tragedy was another accident. The blurb on the back of the book cover says that “all evidence indicates that something far more sinister is behind it. And while Adam struggles to pick up the pieces once again, he sets off in search of the truth behind the accidents—oblivious to the danger that awaits him.” This story is a mix between suspense, drama, mystery, and faith-based inspiration. Not only do we get to follow Adam as he seeks to uncover the truth about the tragedies he’s experienced, but Teixeira connects other mysteries in ways one might not guess.

“Every Good Gift” was a refreshing read. Teixeria has a great hook for the opening line of her book which I believe is important for setting up your story, introducing your narrative voice, and of course, drawing the reader in. The story is written in the third person which aids in the mystery and suspense aspect of the book. For me personally, the book had just enough suspense and intrigue to keep me interested throughout. I appreciated that it remained clean throughout- no swearing, graphic scenes, etc. And that I didn’t have to be on guard (as per my own personal faith and convictions) with what I was reading. The ending was satisfying for me, which is not something I can say for some books. Though it was a little predictable, I didn’t feel any regret in reading it like I had wasted my time. While I do feel like this book may only appeal to those of the Christian faith, I would recommend it to everyone who enjoys a good mystery/suspense book, especially those who might want to read something different for a change.
