“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” ― Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!”
For my first post, I thought it would be important to introduce myself. Hi, I’m Bri and this is my blog for all things literary. I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in English and writing and, though I have completed my studies, I miss the constant conversations and analysis we did for the things we read. This is not something I want to change and, thankfully, it doesn't have to. With this blog, I will be able to use it as the outlet that school once was for me.
Now, as much as I enjoyed college, one thing I found to be difficult was having the time to read for pleasure and to fully take my time with what I was reading. So, an aspect of this blog will include me reading things I’ve never read, but also, re-reading things I didn’t have the time to enjoy. Along with having a love for reading, I am also an aspiring writer, and I would love to support other aspiring writers by reading, reviewing, and promoting their work.
Finally, one thing I’m passionate about is taking the time to read and appreciate the classics. As much as it is important to read what you enjoy, I do believe that the classics should not be forgotten. I don't want to be ignorant of them. As Mark Twain once said, a classic is “a book which people praise and don't read.” Let that not be true of us!
To finish off this post I want to share a little more about myself. Please feel free to respond with your own personal answers to these questions as well.
Favorite Genre-
My favorite genre is mystery (though I enjoy pretty much every genre there is).
How my reading tastes have changed over time-
As a young child and well into my preteen years, I preferred fantasy, romance, and mystery. I would often re-read books that I fell in love with. Ones such as “Bridge to Terabithia” by Katherine Paterson, “Harry Potter” by J.K. Rowling, “Narnia” by C.S. Lewis, and "Pemberley Manor" by Kathryn L. Nelson. I also loved mystery books such as the "Nancy Drew" series. So, my favorite genres have not really changed so much as they’ve expanded. I still love fantasy, adventure, and romance, but now I also find myself enjoying Gothic novels as well as philosophical pieces. I loved reading "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte, "Dracula" by Bram Stoker, and Dostoyevsky’s "Notes from the Underground."
Reading Routine-
There's nothing unique about my reading routine. I find that the best times for me to get in some reading is in the morning and night. Pretty standard but I’ve been reading at night since I was a little girl. As an adult, this can be harder to manage, so I find that on my breaks I also try to sneak in some reading in there as well.
