Monthly Recap: September

I can't believe it's already the end of September and there are only three months left in the year... September is always a fun month, with the first official day of fall, celebrations with family, and the overall change in the season is refreshing. My change in reading material is also a great source of joy. It is not a secret now that I love reading with the seasons. It has also been made very obvious that I love Autumn, so needless to say I have been immersed in all kinds of fall books. So, below are the books I finished and am currently reading, I hope these can also be an option for your own reading list!

Books I Finished This Month

  • And Then There Were None. -Agatha Christie

This was one of the books I shared in my Fall Reading List. I decided I wanted to read it again as it is still my favorite Agatha Christie book, especially in the Fall. For those that have not read it, "And Then There Were None" is a mystery novel that follows ten strangers who are invited to an isolated island all by the same person but for different reasons and without meeting him. Once there, they discover they each are accused of a past crime, and, being then stuck on the island, are each killed one by one. The strangest part is that they all appear to die in accordance with a nursery rhyme called “And Then There Were None.” The suspenseful plot slowly unravels as they try to figure out who the killer is before they all meet their demise.

  • “The Cider Shop Rules” -Julie Anne Lindsey

This was so good that I finished it in a little less than two weeks. If you want to know what this is about, imagine Nancy Drew meets Gilmore Girls and you will end up with this book. In short “Cider Shop Rules” is a mystery about a girl named Winnona May Montgomery who lives in a small town in West Virginia. She owns a cider shop and her granny who raised her along with her late grampy, owns an orchard. The story takes place during the annual Fall Festival, and everything is running smoothly until Mr. Potter, the owner of the local pumpkin patch, is found murdered in the back of Winnie’s pickup truck. The story follows her as she conducts her own investigation into the murder despite the disapproval of the local sheriff. Overall, his story has mystery, romance, wholesome humor, and beautiful descriptions of Autumn and everything that comes along with it. My full review of this book will be posted in a couple of weeks but needless to say, I loved it!

Currently Reading

  • “Crooked House” -Agatha Christie

I have only just begun "Crooked House" but in short, it is a mystery novel by Agatha Christie that revolves around Charles Hayward, a former British intelligence officer, who is engaged to Sophia Leonides. The Leonides family is wealthy and resides in a peculiar, sprawling, crooked house. The plot unfolds when Aristide Leonides, the wealthy patriarch of the family, is murdered with poison. Charles Hayward becomes involved in the investigation and works with the police to solve the murder. He delves into the intricate dynamics and secrets of the Leonides family, attempting to uncover the truth and the motive behind the murder. This is apparently one that Christie was very proud of and so I had to give it a read!

  • Cold Clay by Juneau Black

This is the second book in the Shady Hollow series. I am only a couple pages in and don’t know too much about it nor do I have an opinion yet so I will share the synopsis I found on Amazon: It's autumn in Shady Hollow, and residents are looking forward to harvest feasts. But then a rabbit discovers a grisly crop: the bones of a moose.

Soon, the owner of Joe's Mug is dragged out of the coffeeshop and questioned by the police about the night his wife walked out of his life—and Shady Hollow—forever. It seems like an open-and-shut case, but dogged reporter Vera Vixen doesn't believe gentle Joe is a killer. She'll do anything to prove his innocence ... even if it means digging into secrets her neighbors would rather leave buried.

The synopsis had me intrigued the first time I read it so I’m excited to see if I like it!
